Courses in Florarl Art
Inspired by your pastoral surroundings, you will find immense pleasure in creating your own floral compositions.
The courses we offer are very comprehensive and include details from the history of French floral art, botanical explanations, advice on recognizing different plants…..and you will go
gleaning for treasure in the surrounding woods.
You will be taught how to make a brief, rough sketch of what you wish to achieve and then you will give birth to your creation!
You will learn all the steps in the making of a bouquet or arrangement, from the choice of what should go into it, to the use of `Oasis` or other make of floral foam, to how to keep various
plants and flowers fresh, or, in certain cases, how to preserve them by drying the whole ensemble.
The aim, finally, is to learn how to use the multitude of elements offered by Mother Nature so as to render them sublime when incorporated in designs with more conventional items of
floristry.
It is a very personal approach to floral art developed by Estelle * over many years: simple, poetic and in harmony with the nature that surrounds us.
The three day course is an interesting introduction to floral art and you will learn some indispensable basic techniques.
The week long seminar is more of a total immersion. You will arrive as a novice and depart as an informed amateur.
Beautiful and gentle strolls to familiarize you with the plants hereabouts in their different individual microclimates and habitats, will fine tune your creative spirit.
Inspiration can be found on the banks of the River Lison, in the pine forest to the east, the vineyard, the leafy deciduous trees covered in moss to the west, the meadows….…
The spirit of these training sessions is very convivial because in the midst of all this floral artistry we don`t forget the fine art of living in a chateau: the refined little interludes for the
taking of an Italian coffee or a `Mariage Frères` tea and the nibbling of home made patisseries will titillate your taste buds!
Weather permitting we will work in the park or on the terrace. Inside the chateau the lecture room is marvellous: light, airy, spacious, and cheered by a log fire from autumn
onwards…..
Chopin, Brahms, Beethoven, Saint-Saens …….will accompany us and thus a little romantic musical zephyr will waft over us as we work!
When you leave you will be able to take all your creations with you.
If you are accompanied by a person who doesn`t wish to take the course, many alternative activities are available: fishing, country walks ( do not miss our spectacular waterfall at the source of
the Lison ), mushrooming from summer onwards, raspberry picking in the woods in July and wild blackberry gathering towards the end of August . You could even make a blackberry and apple crumble
for us in the kitchen here.
For the sporty companion there is speleology in the village`s world class cave system, or cliff climbing (all the gear for both activities can be supplied in the local outdoor centre )….but be
careful not to disturb the nesting peregrine falcons and the eagle owls in this ornithologist`s paradise.
There are two nearby equitation centres for horse riders, and for the bibulous, Arbois ( about 20kms away ), is the centre of Jura viticulture and there is plenty of wine tasting in its
surrounding villages.
Naturally this accompanying person would take meals with us and would be welcome on any of our nature rambles.
